List of Ingredients
1/2 c snipped dried sweet cherries (or raisins)
2 c flour
3 TBSP brown sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 c butter
1 beaten egg yolk
1 8-oz. carton sour cream
Recipe
In a small mixing bowl pour enough boiling water over dried cherries to cover. Let stand for 5 minutes; drain well.
In a large mixing bowl combine the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and baking soda. Using a pastry cutter, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add drained cherries and toss to coat. Make a well in the center; set aside.
In a small bowl, combine the egg yolk and the sour cream. Add egg mixture all at once to dry mixture. Using a fork, stir until combined. (mixture may seem dry)
Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Quickly knead dough 10 to 12 strokes or until dough is nearly smooth. Pat or lightly roll dough into a 7-inch circle. Cut into wedges.
Arrange 1 inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 400* for 10 to 12 minutes. Drizzle warm scones with Orange Glaze and serve warm.
Orange Glaze: In a small mixing bowl stir together 1 cup sifted powdered sugar, 1 TBSP orange juice, and 1/4 tsp vanilla. Stir in enough additional orange juice to make drizzling consistency.
