List of Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
4 (10-ounce) cans beef consommé
1/2 cup diced carrots
1/2 cup diced celery
1/2 cup diced onions
1 cup chopped, canned tomatoes
1  1/2 teaspoons browning sauce, such as Kitchen Bouquet
2 beef bouillon cubes
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon monosodium glutamate, optional
1 (10-ounce) package frozen mixed vegetables
Recipe
Brown ground beef in soup pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Drain beef and set aside.
Melt butter in large pot over medium heat.
Stir in flour and stir to make a paste.
Cook, stirring 1 minute, to make a roux.
Gradually add beef consomme, constantly cooking and stirring until slightly thickened.
Bring to a boil.
Add fresh vegetables (carrots, celery, and onions), canned tomatoes.
Add browning sauce, bouillon cubes, pepper and msg, if using.
Reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes.
Stir in frozen vegetables and cooked ground beef.
Simmer 20 more minutes.
