    List of Ingredients


    • 3 1/4 cups sifted flour
    • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
    • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
    • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
    • 1/2 cup sugar
    • 1/2 cup shortening
    • 1/2 cup molasses
    • 1/2 cup buttermilk
    • 1 pund pink peppermint candy mints


    Instructions


    1. sift together the flour, soda, salt and spices
    2. cream shortening and add sugar, cream well
    3. blend in molasses, beat well
    4. add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk.
    5. chill for at least 2 hours
    6. roll out dough on on lightly floured pastry cloth or board to 1/8 inch thickness
    7. cut with 2 1/4 inch round cutter
    8. place on grease baking sheet and bake at 350 for 6 minutes
    9. remover from oven
    10. top half of the partially-baked cookies with a pink peppermint patty
    11. bake all the cookies 2-3 minutes longer
    12. remove from oven
    13. immediately top the mint-covered cookies with the plain ones
    14. press slightly to seal
    15. remove from cookie sheet and cool
