Buttermilk Biscuits

2-1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
3/4 cup buttermilk
Recipe
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Lightly grease a cookie sheet, or line with parchment paper.
Sift together dry ingredients. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender or two knives, until mixture resembles coarse meal. Stir in buttermilk just until all dry ingredients are moistened.
Turn dough onto a floured surface; knead lightly five times. Roll or pat dough to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with a sharp biscuit cutter.
Bake 15 minutes, until golden.
