    Recipe Introduction

In my version I omit the nuts, as some of my family can't eat them. You could use coconut instead if you wish.

    List of Ingredients

    Sift together:-
    3/4 cup flour
    1/2 teaspoon baking powder
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    2 tablespoons cocoa.

    Cream together:-
    1/2 cup shortening
    3/4 cup sugar
    --------------------
    2 eggs
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1/2 cup chopped pecans
12 to 16 marshmallows, cut in half.

    Recipe

After creaming together the shortening and sugar, until light and fluffy; blend in the 2 eggs - one at a time - beating well.
Add sifted dry ingredients, Mix well. Then add the vanilla and nuts.

Spread in a greased and floured pan. Bake 30 minutes.

then cover top with the cut up marshmallows and return to oven for 3 minutes until marshmallows are soft.
Spread them evenly, let cool and then cover with chocolate frosting.

NOTE:- There was no temperature for baking in this recipe, I recommend 350ºF or 375ºF depending on your stove.
Also I use miniature marshmallows instead of cutting up the regular size ones. (There was only the regular ones when my mother made this recipe when I was little). I also sprinkle chocolate chips amongst the marshmallows, before baking again for another 5 to 7 minutes.

    Cool and cut into squares.
