    This is delicious buttered hot from the oven.
    Mom always made this when she made Pea Soup, and I liked to eat it at the same time as I ate my soup. Instead of after the meal.

    List of Ingredients




    2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    1-1/2 tsp baking soda
    1/2 tsp cloves
    1 tsp cinnamon
    1 tsp ginger
    1 cup molasses
    1 cup hot water
    3/4 tsp salt
    1/2 cup shortening
    1/2 cup granulated sugar
    1 egg unbeaten

    Recipe




    Method:-
    Preheat oven to 350F.
    Grease a 9"x9" pan and line it with waxed paper.
    Sift together all dry ingredients.
    Thoroughly cream shortening and sugar, then add egg and beat until very light and fluffy - about 4 minutes.
    Beat in molasses. Then blend in dry mixture and hot water.
    Pour into prepared pan.
    Bake in 350F-375F oven for 25 - 30 minutes or until done.
    Cool on rack for 10 minutes, then invert from pan, peel off paper and cool on rack.
