6 cups water (or enough to cover beans, the broth also works great)

1. Start by rinsing your pinto beans and removing any sand or rocks. Add the beans, onions, garlic, poblano, cumin, salt, and bay leaves to the crock pot.
2. Cover with chicken broth, water, or vegetable broth until there is a 1-2 inches of broth above the beans.
