Remove all the rust with steel wool, Rub the pan or pot with salt and put it in a 450 degree oven for 45 minutes. Dump out the salt. Grease the pan thoroughly with bacon grease and put back in the oven for another half hour. Let the pan cool in the oven. Wipe out any excess bacon fat with a soft dry rag.
Do not ever wash the pan in soap or detergent or use steel wool on it.
After you have used it, rinse with mild scalding water. Use only nylon net or non-scratching scrubber to remove crusted food and then wipe dry and be sure not to put it away with any moisture in it. When storing the pan/pot place a couple of paper towels inside.
