German Onion Cake
List of Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1/4 cup corn starch
- 4 tsp. baking soda
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 5 tbs. vegetable shortening
- 3/4 cup milk
- TOPPING:
- Sautee 2 cups onions cut coarsley, 2 tbs. butter, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1/2 tsp. pepper and 1/2 tsp. marjoram
- Paprika to sprinkle at the end
Instructions
- In a food processor pulse 2-3 times: 2 cups flour, 1/4 cup corn starch, 4 tsp. baking soda and 3/4 tsp. salt
- Pulse again 3-4 times
- Add 5 tbp. vegetable shortening and pulse 2-3 times till coarse and add 3/4 cup milk and make a stiff batter
- Pour batter into a 10" grease cake pan and spreed evenly
- Spread onion mixture over the top
- Spreed 3/4 cup sour cream with beaton egg over the top
- Sprinkle with paprika
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees and bake for 20 minutes
