    Source of Recipe

    cdkitchen.com

    List of Ingredients

    1 pound whole wheat flour
    1/2 pound strong white flour
    2 teaspoons baking powder/raising agent
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1oz sugar
    1 egg
    1/2 pint buttermilk/sour milk/skimmed milk

    Recipe

Place all the dry ingredients in a large bowl. Slowly work in the egg and the milk, aiming for a soft dough consistency. Knead for no more than 10 minutes. Form large rounds of the dough on a flat baking tray, stand for 30 minutes, and place in a preheated oven at 220C for around 40 minutes, or until the loaves are lightly browned. Soda bread is a flattish loaf, served with meals and especially at breakfast with preserves.
