    Apple: Apple Walnut Squares

    2 c Flour, all purpose
    2 c Brown sugar, firmly packed
    1/2 c Butter, room temp.
    1 c Walnuts, chopped
    1 t Cinnamon
    1 t Baking soda
    1/4 ts Salt
    1 Egg
    1 c Sour cream
    1 t Vanilla
    2 c Tart apples**(about 2 large)

    **Peel and thinly slice apples.

    Preheat oven to 350. Lightly grease 9x13 baking dish. Comine flour, sugar and butter in med. bowl and mix until finely crumbled. Stir in walnuts. Press 2 cups fo mixtures evenly into prepared dish. Add cinnamon, soda, and salt and blend well. Beat in egg, sour cream and vanilla. Gently stir in apples. Spoon evenly into dish. Bake 35-40 minutes (cake begins to pull away from sides and tester comes out clean). Cool completely in pan. Serve with whipped cream.
