    List of Ingredients




    COOKIE LAYER:
    1 1/2 cups sifted flour
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1/2 cup softened butter
    3/4 cup brown sugar

    TOPPING:
    6 ounces butterscotch chips
    1/4 cup light corn syrup
    2 tablespoons shortening
    1 tablespoon water
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    2 cups coarse chopped nuts

    Heat oven to 375 degrees. Grease and lightly flour a 9 by 13 cake pan. Sift flour and salt into a bowl. Cut in butter with pastry blender or two forks. Add sugar and mix well. Pat dough evenly in prepared pan. Bake 15 minutes. Cool slightly. For topping: Combine all ingredients except nuts and heat until melted and smooth. Stir in nuts. Spoon evenly over crust. Bake 8 more minutes. Cool until slightly warm and then cut into squares. Cool completely before serving.
