    1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
    1 1/2 cups sugar
    3 eggs, room temperature
    1 cup flour
    3/4 teaspoon baking powder
    1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
    2 1/2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, melted
    1/2 teaspoon vanilla
    1/4 cup sweetened coconut flakes

    Preheat the oven to 350ºF. Lightly grease an 8x8 inch pan. Place the butter and sugar in the bowl of a mixer fitted with a paddle and beat until smooth and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well and scraping down the sides of the bowl before each addition. Add the flour, baking powder, and salt, mixing until all is well incorporated.

    Place 2/3 of the mixture in a mixing bowl, add the chocolate and vanilla, and mix until thoroughly combined. Add the coconut to the remaining third and mix to combine. Place the chocolate mixture into the prepared pan and smooth down with a knife. Top with the coconut mixture and smooth down with a knife. Put in oven and bake until top is just golden and a tester comes out clean, about 22-25 minutes. Cool in the pan and cut into 12-16 bars.
