    Almond-Chocolate Chip Cake

    1/2 cup butter or margarine softened
    2 cups self-rising flour
    1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar
    3/4 cup slivered almonds
    1/2 cup semisweet chocolate morsels
    1 egg lightly beaten
    1 egg separated
    1/3 cup milk
    1/2 cup slivered almonds
    1/2 cup grated sweet chocolate

    Recipe



    Preheat oven to 350°F.  Spray a 9x5-inch loaf pan with non-stick vegetable spray. In a large mixing bowl, cut butter into flour until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.  Add sugar, almonds, chocolate morsels, egg, egg yolk, and milk; stir until mixture is well blended.  Spoon into prepared loaf pan; smooth the top.  Brush the top with egg white; sprinkle with almonds.
    Bake for 1 hour or until the cake pulls away from the sides of the pan and feels firm to the touch.  Sprinkle grated chocolate over the top of the hot cake.  Cool in pan for 10 minutes.  Remove from pan; cool completely on a wire rack.
