    List of Ingredients





    1 cup sugar
    4 tablespoons flour
    1 egg, beaten
    1 cup molasses
    2 cups water
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    2 cups flour
    1 cup brown sugar
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1 teaspoon cream of tartar
    1/4 cup butter
    1/4 cup shortening
    2 unbaked pie shells (9")

    Recipe



    In saucepan combine white sugar, 4 tbl. flour, egg, molasses, water and vanilla. Bring to a full rolling boil, then set aside to cool. In large bowl, combine 2 c. flour, brown sugar, baking soda, cream of tartar, butter and shortening. Rub together with fingers to make crumbs (or combine in food processor). Pour half of cooked mixture into each unbaked pie shell, then cover each pie with crumbs. Bake at 350ºF for 40-45 minutes.
