    1 large onion, coarsely chopped
    3 cloves garlic, minced
    16 ounces tomatoes, chopped (with juice)
    2 cups tomato juice
    2 plum tomatoes, coarse chopped
    1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
    1 teaspoon dried oregano
    1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
    1/2 teaspoon sugar (optional)
    3 tablespoons thin sliced fresh basil
    fresh ground black pepper

    Coat a large nonstick skillet with nonstick spray. Add the onions and garlic, Mist with nonstick spray. Cook over medium low heat, stirring, for 5 minutes, or until the onions soften. Add the canned tomatoes (with juice), tomato juice, plum tomatoes, parsley, oregano, red pepper flakes (if using), and sugar (if using). cover and simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes, or untilt he tomatoes are softened. With the back of a large spoon, break some of the tomatoes to thicken the sauce. Stir in the basil and season to taste with pepper.
