    Recipe Introduction

Many of you post questions how you should measure out your portion of some of the combination foods. Seems tricky at first, but really simple if you take a moment to do a bit of math before you begin.
Here goes....if a recipe calls for a pound of ____(fill in the blank protein)..ground turkey, say. Then I would suggest that you purchase at least 1 and 1/8 pound of raw meat to account for the amount that will cook off. Then, add in your other ingredients. If the recipe calls for cooked rice or potatoes, then you'll have to do similar math, or your best educated guess. If you are allowed to eat 1/2 cup of carb for a serving, then when you are putting the carb into the recipe, take into consideration how much you are adding. If you don't think that the recipe calls for enough carbs to make a serving for you, then you have two options. You can add more in to make the recipe more user friendly for you, OR you can serve the recipe atop a carb. It just boils down to thinking about the ingredients as you are putting them in a recipe, then it will just be a matter of dividing it up into the requesite servings, bag and store!

If you are making one of the baked goods, then take into account the amount of egg whites that are used, how much you are allowed, then divide accordingly. If the recipe sounds to you like it may stall your weight loss, then don't use it! Remember, these recipes are used by members who are strictly on the program and for other members who are Living Lean but still want to stick pretty close to plan.
