It holds 1 to 2 servings. The 6-qt cooker holds 6 to 12 servings. Use the slow cooker according to the manufacturer's directions, following these helpful hints.

    Never fill the crock and let food stand more than 2 hours before turning on the cooker. Don't remove the lid and let heat escape - cooking time will be longer. Fill crock at least half full when following the recommended cooking times. Reduce cooking times when using using small quantities. Change cooking times to meet your schedule. 1 hour on HIGH generally equals 2 hours on LOW. When cooking on the LOW setting, don't worry if the food cooks 30 minutes to 1 hour longer than intended. In general, cook meat and vegetables 8 to 10 hours on LOW or 4 to 5 hours on HIGH.

    Thaw frozen meats and vegetables before placing them in the cooker. Cut meats into the specified sizes to ensure doneness.Place vegetables in the crock first - they take longer to to cook than meats do. Do not add dried beans to the cooker. Precook beans in the cooker overnight in just enough water to cover and then drain. Or simmer the beans in unsalted water 3 times their volume for 10 minutes and then drain. Avoid recipes with dairy products, which tend to break down with extended cooking times.

    To adapt a favorite recipe (except for soups) reduce the amount of liquid by approximately half. Follow these cooking-time adaptations for your electric slow cooker. If the recipe cooks 15 to 30 minutes, plan on 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 hours on HIGH or 4 to 8 hours on LOW. For 35 to 45 minutes, change the cooking time to 3 to 4 hours on HIGH or 6 to 10 hours on LOW. For 50 minutes to 3 hours, cook for 4 to 6 hours on HIGH or 8 to 10 hours on LOW.
