Sift flour, salt and optional baking powder. Add water or soy milk to a sticky consistency and shape with as little handling as possible into a severe 20 x 10 cm (4x 2 in). Either wrap in tin foil and throw into embers or place on a hot oven tray rather than into a severe and bake in pre-heated oven at 200*C (400*F) for approximately 30 mins or until golden brown.
Takakau can be placed in the embers and the burnt crust taken off before eating.
