3 tablespoons sesame oil
2 onions -- chopped
2 cloves garlic -- mashed
1 tablespoon cumin
1 tablespoon chili powder
2 tablespoons tamari
1/4 teaspoon cayenne
1 bay leaf
Salt and pepper to taste
1/2 teaspoon coriander
2 carrots -- diced
1 stalk celery -- chopped
2 cups dried split peas
4 cups water
Toasted sesame seeds -- groundRecipe
Pour oil in soup pot. When it's hot, add onion and garlic. When these are soft, add cumin, chili powder, tamari, cayenne, bay leaf, salt, pepper and coriander. Stir until the spices give the mixture a nice aroma. Stir in carrots and celery. Add peas and water. Simmer until peas are soft and mixture is thick, about 2 hours. Add more water if needed. Top with ground toasted sesame seeds.
