DANISH APPLE BARS
3 CUPS FLOUR
1 TSP. SALT
1 CUP SHORTENING
1 EGG YOLK (BEATEN)
ENOUGH MILK ADDED TO BEATEN EGG YOLK TO MAKE 1 CUP
1 CUP CRUSHED CORNFLAKES
8 CUPS PEELED AND SLICED APPLES
1 CUP SUGAR
1 TSP. CINNAMON
1 EGG WHITE
ICING
*******
1 CUP SIFTED ICING SUGAR
2 TBSP. WATER
1 TSP. VANILLA
SIFT TOGETHER THE FLOUR AND SALT.
CUT IN SHORTENING UNTIL CRUMBLY
ADD ENOUGH MILK TO THE EGG YOLK TO MAKE 1 CUP AND ADD TO FLOUR MIXTURE.
DIVIDE DOUGH IN HALF.
ROLL OUT ONE HALF OF THE DOUGH AND PLACE ON A COOKING SHEET WITH A RIM. SPRINKLE CRUSHED CORNFLAKES ON BOTTOM LAYER OF DOUGH AND ADD APPLES.
COMINE THE SUGAR AND CINNAMON AND SPRINKLE OVER APPLES.
COVER WITH SEVOND HALF OF DOUGH, CRIMPING EDGES.
BRUSH EGG WHITE OVER TOP LAYER OF PASTRY AND THIS HELPS IT TO BROWN WITH A GLAZE.
MAKE SLITS IN PASTRY.
BAKE AT 375F FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 HOUR OR UNTIL YOU THINK IT IS READY.
