    Best Burrata Ball

    Source of Recipe

From "The Happy Cookbook" by Kathy Doocy and Steve Doocy

    Recipe Introduction

"Hate to name-drop, but Tiger Woods made this appetizer for us. Okay, that sounds as if the golfer put on an apron and made it himself—and it was supposed to. In reality, we ordered his version off the menu at Tiger's restaurant, called The Woods Jupiter. Now we make our own creation any time we have the deep-fryer plugged in and are flash-frying things. The combination of the bread crumbs on the outside and the creamy burrata on the inside is simply splendid. As Voltaire once observed, 'The family that eats fried cheese together is a happy family.' Did I say Voltaire? I meant Fabio."

    List of Ingredients

    â—¦ Canola oil, for deep-frying
    â—¦ 1 ½ cups flour
    â—¦ 1 large egg
    â—¦ ¾ cup milk
â—¦ 1 ½ cups plain dried bread crumbs
    â—¦ Four 4-ounce burrata balls
â—¦ 1 ½ cups your favorite marinara, warmed
â—¦ Grated Parmesan cheese, for garnish
â—¦ Shredded basil leaves, for garnish
â—¦ Toasted sliced baguette, for serving (optional)

    Recipe

Heat the oil in a deep-fat fryer to 375° F.

Set out three shallow bowls or plates. Place the flour in one, whisk the egg and milk in the second until smooth, and put the bread crumbs in the third.

Roll a burrata ball in the flour to coat it well, then coat it completely in the egg/milk mixture, then roll it in the bread crumbs so every spot is covered. Now let's give it one more layer, so coat it again in the egg/milk and then back in the bread crumbs. Set aside and repeat with the other burrata balls.

Carefully place the balls in the fryer, and fry until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Keep an eye on them because they do start leaking. Place the fried burrata balls on paper towels to soak up any grease.

On either a communal serving platter or individual saucer, create a little pool of marinara, then place the hot burrata ball in the sauce. Garnish with Parmesan and a pinch of shredded basil. You can then either cut up and eat the burrata with a fork or serve it with toasted bread.

    Makes 4 servings
