Recipe Introduction
"Cooking sweet onions like Vidalias and Texas 1015s long and slow brings out the richness of their earthy flavor by way of caramelization. Serve this with crackers, corn chip scoops, or sliced fresh vegetables."
List of Ingredients
â—¦ 2 tablespoons butter
â—¦ 2 sweet onions, chopped
â—¦ 1 teaspoon salt
â—¦ ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
â—¦ One 16-ounce container regular or light sour cream
â—¦ 3 tablespoons finely sliced green onions or chives
â—¦ Dash of Worcestershire sauce
â—¦ Finely sliced green onions or chives or chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Recipe
In a large nonstick skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
Add the chopped onions, turn the heat to low, and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are soft and browned, about 25 minutes. Sprinkle the onions with ½ teaspoon of the salt and ¼ teaspoon of the pepper. Remove the pan from the heat and let stand 25 minutes to cool.
In a medium bowl, stir to combine the caramelized onions, sour cream, and 3 tablespoons green onions. Stir in the remaining ½ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon pepper, and Worcestershire. Cover the onion spread and refrigerate it at least 1 hour (for best flavor), or up to 2 days. Garnish with sliced green onions, chives, or chopped fresh parsley, if desired, before serving.
