Pigs in a Blanket

Recipe Introduction
"If little cocktail franks wrapped in pastry remind you of your childhood (close your eyes and you're back in the family room), then you will be happy to know that retro rules. Perhaps, though, in some places—the Midwest and Great Plains, for instance—the savory bites never fell out of favor. Why else would the American Farm Bureau Foundation's 'Dates to Celebrate Agriculture' calendar include a National Pigs in a Blanket Day? Mark your own so you don't forget to celebrate on April 24."
List of Ingredients
â—¦ 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
â—¦ 1 package (12 ounces) cocktail franks, patted dry
â—¦ 1 large egg, lightly beaten
â—¦ 2 to 3 teaspoons poppy seeds
â—¦ Ketchup or mustard, for serving
Recipe
Preheat oven to 400° F.
Unfold pastry on a work surface. Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife (and a ruler or other straight edge), cut pastry into 10 equal strips; cut each strip crosswise into thirds (to yield thirty 1-by-3-inch pieces). Wrap a strip of pastry around each frank, and place, seam-side down, 2 inches apart on a rimmed baking sheet.
Using a pastry brush, coat top of pastries with beaten egg, then sprinkle evenly with poppy seeds. Bake until golden, rotating sheet halfway through, 25 to 30 minutes. Serve hot with ketchup or mustard, as desired.
