    The Outrageous Onion

    List of Ingredients


    • 1 very large (preferably sweet) onion, peeled
    • .
    • -- Onion Flour --
    • 2 cups flour
    • 1 Tbsp paprika
    • 2 Tbsp Lawry's seasoned salt
    • 1 Tbsp pepper (white preferred)
    • 2 Tbsp onion powder
    • 1 Tbsp cayenne
    • 1 Tbsp garlic salt
    • 1 tsp sugar
    • Sprinkle of dried basil
    • .
    • Egg wash made with 4 eggs and 2 cups flour (or scale down)
    • Oil for deep-frying


    Instructions


    1. Slice the top off of the peeled onion, leaving root intact. Cut down through the onion in half-inch crossing pattern. Place in ice-water bath for 24 hours or overnight. Drain.

    2. Dredge onion with onion flour. Coat with the egg wash. Dredge onion thoroughly again in onion flour.

    3. Place onion in a deep-fryer, bottom side up, for 4 minutes or until golden brown; turn over and fry for another 2 to 3 minutes. Drain upside down for 1 minute. Cool slightly. Remove onion core with corer or sharp paring knife.

      Garnish with kale and serve with barbecue sauce.
