Source of Recipe
From "Williams-Sonoma: Cooking at Home"
Recipe Introduction
"Reminiscent of what you might find in a restaurant specializing in Kansas City-style barbecue, this all-purpose, tomato-based sauce is a touch hot and a touch sweet and wonderful on pork ribs, beef brisket, or chicken. It is also a good table sauce."
List of Ingredients
â—¦ 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
â—¦ 1 yellow onion, finely chopped
â—¦ 1½ cups ketchup
â—¦ â…“ cup Worcestershire sauce
â—¦ ¼ cup steak sauce
â—¦ 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
â—¦ â…“ cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
Recipe
In a saucepan over medium-low heat, melt the butter. Add the onion and cook, stirring, until softened, about 5 minutes.
Stir the ketchup, ½ cup water, the Worcestershire sauce, steak sauce, vinegar, and brown sugar into the pan. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat to low, cover partially, and simmer until slightly thickened, about 20 minutes.
Use the sauce right away, or let cool, cover, and store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Makes about 3 cups
