Shake: Red Velvet Milk Shakes
Source of Recipe
From "Back Around the Table" by David Venable
Recipe Introduction
"There is probably no more popular cake in America than red velvet. What you may not know is that the cake is actually a rich chocolate cake that turns red, thanks to a little red food coloring (I use red cake decorating gel). So, how can you top red velvet cake? By blending the ingredients into a frosty, creamy red velvet milk shake. For a vintage ice cream parlor touch, I serve them in tall glasses with long parfait spoons and striped paper straws."
List of Ingredients
â—¦ 6 scoops French vanilla ice cream (about 3 cups)
â—¦ ¼ cup red velvet cake mix
â—¦ 2 tablespoons cream cheese, at room temperature
â—¦ 2 to 3 drops red cake-decorating gel
â—¦ 3 tablespoons chocolate syrup
â—¦ 1 ¼ cups whole milk
â—¦ 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
â—¦ Whipped cream, red and white sprinkles, and maraschino cherries
Recipe
Put the ice cream, cake mix, cream cheese, decorating gel, chocolate syrup, milk, and vanilla into a blender.
Blend well, adding more milk for thinner milk shakes.
Divide the mixture between two tall glasses.
Garnish with the whipped cream, sprinkles, and cherries.
