    Spirited: Easy Mulled Wine

    List of Ingredients


    • 1 cup sugar (or less, if desired)
    • 3 cups water
    • Peel of 1 lemon or orange
    • 18 whole cloves
    • 1 magnum (1.5 liters) red wine
    • Cinnamon sticks


    Instructions


    1. Make the syrup by boiling together the sugar, water, lemon peel and cloves. Simmer at least 15 minutes. Strain out the peel and cloves. Store in the refrigerator until ready to use.

    2. Minutes before serving, combine the syrup and wine and heat gently (do not boil, as it will vaporize the alcohol). Serve in mugs and garnish each with a cinnamon stick.

      Makes 20 servings.
