Spirited: Traditional Red Sangria
Source of Recipe
Ignacio Fonseca
List of Ingredients
- ½ cup Spanish brandy
- ½ cup Triple Sec
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 unpeeled oranges, in thinly sliced rounds
- 2 unpeeled lemons, in thinly sliced rounds
- 1 (750-ml) bottle rioja wine, such as Campo Viejo, Viña Real, or Montecillo
- ½ cup fresh-squeezed orange juice
Instructions
- In a large pitcher or glass jar with lid, stir brandy, Triple Sec and sugar together. Mix in orange and lemon slices, cover the pitcher, and allow the fruit to macerate overnight in the refrigerator.
- The next day, add the wine and orange juice. You can serve the sangria immediately over ice or let it mellow in the refrigerator, covered, for several hours. If you would like to keep it longer, remove the citrus slices to another container so the sangria does not become bitter. Add them back just before serving.
