    Garlic Cheese Sticks

    Source of Recipe

From "The Essential Pantry Cookbook" by Jen Chapin

    Recipe Introduction

"When we order pizza, one of my favorite things to get is cheese sticks. With this easy recipe, you can make them at home! Serve them alongside a homemade pizza, or as a side to any pasta dish."

    List of Ingredients

    For the dough:
â—¦ 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
â—¦ 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
    â—¦ 1 teaspoon kosher salt
    â—¦ 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
    â—¦ 1 cup very warm water (115° F)
â—¦ 1 tablespoon olive oil, plus more for greasing the bowl

    For the cheese sticks:
    â—¦ 2 tablespoons cornmeal
â—¦ 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
â—¦ 3 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
    â—¦ 3 cloves garlic, minced
    â—¦ ¾ teaspoon Italian seasoning
    â—¦ ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
â—¦ 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
â—¦ Marinara sauce, for serving (optional)

    Recipe

    To make the dough:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, yeast, salt, and sugar. In a separate bowl, whisk together the water and oil. Pour into the dry ingredients and stir until the mixture forms a ball.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth, about 3 minutes. Grease a bowl with oil. Place the dough in the oiled bowl, turning to coat the top. Let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.

    To make the cheese sticks:
Preheat the oven to 450° F. Sprinkle the cornmeal on a pizza pan or baking sheet.

In a small bowl, whisk together the butter, Parmesan, garlic, Italian seasoning, and salt. Spread the dough out on the pan, in a 12-inch circle or oval. Brush the garlic-butter topping evenly over the dough. Sprinkle with the mozzarella.

Bake for 13 to 15 minutes, until golden brown and cheese is melted. Cut into strips and serve.

    Serves 4 to 6

    • A stand mixer with a dough hook can also be used for this recipe.
