    List of Ingredients


    • 4 cups all-purpose flour
    • 2 Tbsp baking powder
    • 1 Tbsp plus 1 tsp sugar
    • 1 tsp baking soda
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 2/3 cup chilled unsalted sweet butter
    • 1-1/2 cups buttermilk
    • 1/4 cup melted butter


    Instructions


    1. Mix flour, baking powder, sugar, baking soda, and salt in a medium-size bowl. Cut in chilled butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in buttermilk.

    2. Turn dough out onto floured surface. Knead lightly, about 10 strokes. Roll dough to 1-1/4-inch thickness. Cut into 3-inch circles.

    3. Arrange biscuits with sides touching in a buttered 9-inch square baking pan. Brush tops with melted butter.

    4. Bake at 450 degrees until golden -- about 25 minutes. Serve warm.

      Makes 8 large biscuits.
