- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 Tbsp baking powder
- 1 Tbsp plus 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 2/3 cup chilled unsalted sweet butter
- 1-1/2 cups buttermilk
- 1/4 cup melted butter
Instructions
- Mix flour, baking powder, sugar, baking soda, and salt in a medium-size bowl. Cut in chilled butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in buttermilk.
- Turn dough out onto floured surface. Knead lightly, about 10 strokes. Roll dough to 1-1/4-inch thickness. Cut into 3-inch circles.
- Arrange biscuits with sides touching in a buttered 9-inch square baking pan. Brush tops with melted butter.
- Bake at 450 degrees until golden -- about 25 minutes. Serve warm.
Makes 8 large biscuits.
