    Country Home, May 2000

    List of Ingredients

    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 cup sugar
    • 2 tsp cream of tartar
    • 3/4 tsp baking soda
    • 6 Tbsp butter
    • 1/2 cup walnuts or currants
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 Tbsp milk
    • Milk, optional
    • Granulated sugar, optional

    Instructions

    1. Combine flour, 1/2 cup sugar, cream of tartar, and baking soda. Cut in butter. Stir in walnuts. Combine eggs and 1 tablespoon milk; add to dry ingredients. Stir until just moistened. Form dough into a ball.

    2. On a lightly floured surface, roll or pat dough into a circle, 3/4-inch thick and about 7 inches in diameter. Cut into 6 to 8 wedges. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Brush with additional milk and sprinkle with sugar, if desired.

    3. Bake in a 425-degree oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden.

      Makes 6 to 8 scones.
