    Raised Refrigerator Biscuits

    Source of Recipe

    Maryann Coleridge

    List of Ingredients

    • 5 cups flour
    • 5 tsp baking powder
    • 1 tsp baking soda
    • 2 tsp salt
    • 3 Tbsp sugar
    • 3/4 cup shortening
    • 1 pkg. dry yeast
    • 5 Tbsp warm water
    • 2 cups buttermilk

    Instructions

    1. Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar. Cut in shortening and set aside.

    2. Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add yeast mixture to buttermilk. Combine liquid with dry ingredients to form a stiff dough. Place in refrigerator until chilled throughout. (Dough will keep 1 to 2 weeks in refrigerator.)

    3. Pinch off portions from dough as needed, and drop onto a cool, greased cookie sheet. Bake at 450º F until lightly browned, about 15 to 20 minutes. (Do not preheat oven; biscuits will rise and bake as oven temperature rises.)

      Yields about 4 dozen biscuits.
