Blackberry and Oatmeal Breakfast Brûlée

Recipe Introduction
"Berries and oatmeal make this a healthy breakfast. A thin, crunchy, brown sugar crust makes this a decadent breakfast. You can broil the topping or use a kitchen torch if you have one, which means you get to play with fire before breakfast. For the best results, use steel-cut or stone-cut oatmeal cooked according to the package directions. In lieu of that, use old-fashioned rolled oats. Instant oatmeal is not an option."
List of Ingredients
â—¦ 4 cups freshly cooked oatmeal
â—¦ ½ cup coarsely chopped walnuts, toasted
â—¦ 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
â—¦ ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
â—¦ 2 cups fresh blackberries
â—¦ 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
â—¦ 1 cup sour cream, at room temperature
â—¦ ½ cup light brown sugar
Recipe
Preheat the broiler.
Cook the oatmeal according to package directions. When it is ready, remove the pan from the heat and stir in the walnuts, vanilla, and cinnamon. Divide the oatmeal among four shallow gratin dishes or heatproof bowls and top with the berries.
Stir together the granulated sugar and sour cream in a small bowl and spread evenly over the berries. Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top. Place the dishes on a rimmed baking sheet. Broil until the brown sugar caramelizes and forms a crisp shell, about 3 minutes. Serve at once, keeping in mind that the dishes are extremely hot.
