    Sausage Breakfast Casserole

    Recipe Introduction

    "Every Southern hostess has a fabulous breakfast casserole in her recipe box for brunch occasions. This sausage breakfast casserole is as easy as it is delicious."

    List of Ingredients

    â—¦ 6 cups 1-inch cubes Italian bread
    â—¦ 1 pound sausage, cooked and crumbled (or 16 slices cooked bacon, crumbled)
    â—¦ 2 ½ cups grated extra sharp cheddar cheese
    â—¦ 1 small onion, diced
    â—¦ 6 eggs
    â—¦ 2 cups milk
    â—¦ ½ teaspoon salt
    â—¦ 1 teaspoon ground mustard
    â—¦ ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper

    Recipe

    Spray a 9 x 13-inch casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray.
    Place bread cubes in the bottom of the dish. Sprinkle the cooked sausage, cheese, and onion evenly over the bread.

    In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, mustard, and cayenne. Pour over the casserole.
    Cover and chill overnight.

    Remove casserole from refrigerator, set on the counter while the oven preheats to 350 degrees, and bake for 30 to 35 minutes.

    Makes 8 servings
