    Source of Recipe

From "The Big Book of Breakfast" by Maryana Vollstedt

    Recipe Introduction

"For variety, add a little spice and sweetness to your French toast. It is so good, you don't need syrup. Serve with bacon."

    List of Ingredients

    â—¦ 3 large eggs
    â—¦ ½ cup milk
    â—¦ â…“ cup maple syrup
    â—¦ ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
    â—¦ ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
    â—¦ Dash of ground nutmeg
    â—¦ Dash of ground cloves
    â—¦ ½ teaspoon sugar
â—¦ 6 slices day-old bread of your choice
â—¦ 1 to 2 tablespoons butter or vegetable oil, divided

    Recipe

In a large, shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and sugar. Dip each slice of bread in egg mixture, turning to coat, and place on a piece of waxed paper.

Preheat a large nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon butter and swirl to coat the skillet. Add three slices of bread and cook until lightly browned, about 3 minutes on each side, turning once. Add remaining tablespoon of butter and repeat with remaining bread.

Serve with toppings of your choice.

    Makes 6 slices
