    Toffee Apple French Toast

    Source of Recipe

From "Sunday Dinner at Grandma's" (Gooseberry Patch)

    List of Ingredients

    • 8 cups French bread, sliced into 1-inch cubes and divided
    • 2 Granny Smith apples, cored, peeled and chopped
    • One 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened
    • ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
    • ¼ cup sugar
    • 1¾ cup milk, divided
    • 2 tsp vanilla extract, divided
    • ½ cup toffee or almond brickle baking bits
    • 5 eggs, beaten

    Instructions

    1. Place half the bread cubes in a greased 13- x 9-inch baking pan; top with apples and set aside.

    2. In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese, sugars, ¼ cup milk, and 1 teaspoon vanilla until smooth. Stir in baking bits and spread over apples. Top with remaining bread cubes. In a separate bowl, beat eggs with remaining milk and vanilla; pour over bread. Cover and refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight.

    3. Remove from refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. Uncover and bake at 350° F for 35 to 45 minutes, until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.

      Makes 8 servings.
