Butterscotch Coffee Spice Bars

List of Ingredients
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- ½ cup shortening
- 1 egg
- ½ cup hot water
- 1 tsp instant coffee granules
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- 1 cup butterscotch chips
- ½ cup chopped nuts
Instructions
- Combine brown sugar, shortening and egg; beat until creamy. Mix hot water and instant coffee; blend into creamed mixture.
- Stir together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon; gradually stir into creamed mixture. Add butterscotch chips and nuts; mix well.
- Spread in greased and floured 13x9x2-inch pan. Bake at 350° F for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool; cut into bars.
Makes 2 dozen.
