    Chocolate-Cream Cheese Swirl Brownies

    • 2 (1-ounce) unsweetened chocolate baking squares, chopped
    • 2 (1-ounce) semisweet chocolate baking squares, chopped
    • 2 Tbsp butter
    • 1 (3-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
    • 2 Tbsp butter, softened
    • ¾ cup sugar, divided
    • 1 Tbsp all-purpose flour
    • 3 large eggs
    • ½ tsp vanilla extract
    • 2/3 cup semisweet chocolate morsels, divided
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
    • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
    • ¼ tsp baking powder
    • ¼ tsp salt


    Instructions


    1. Combine first 3 ingredients in a small, microwave-safe bowl; cover with a small piece of wax paper. Microwave at low 30 seconds; stir until smooth, and set aside.

    2. Whisk together cream cheese and 2 tablespoons butter until creamy; gradually whisk in 6 tablespoons sugar and 1 tablespoon flour until smooth. Whisk in 1 egg and ½ tsp vanilla until smooth. Whisk in 1/3 cup chocolate morsels; set cream cheese batter aside.

    3. Place remaining 6 tablespoons sugar in a medium bowl. Whisk in warm chocolate mixture until smooth. Whisk in remaining 2 eggs and 1 teaspoon vanilla. In a separate bowl, whisk together ¼ cup flour, baking powder, and salt; add to chocolate mixture, stirring until smooth. Stir in remaining 1/3 cup chocolate morsels.

    4. Spoon chocolate batter in about 5 large portions into a lightly greased 9½- x 7-inch pan. Pour cream cheese batter over chocolate batter. Swirl slightly with a small spatula.

    5. Bake at 350° for 22 to 24 minutes, or until a wooden pick comes out clean. Cool completely on a wire rack. Cut into bars.

      Makes 12 brownies.
