Chocolate Cherry Bars

- 1 (1 lb. 2.25 oz.) pkg. pudding-included devil's food cake mix
- 1 (21-oz.) can cherry pie filling
- 1 tsp almond extract
- 2 eggs, beaten

- 1 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup milk
- 5 Tbsp butter (or margarine)
- 1 (6-oz.) pkg. semisweet chocolate chips (1 cup)
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350 degrees (F). Grease and flour a 15x10x1-inch baking pan or a 13x9-inch pan. In large bowl, combine all bar ingredients; stir until well blended. Spread in greased and floured pan.
- Bake until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. For the 15x10x1-inch pan, bake 20 to 30 minutes; for 13x9-inch pan, bake 25 to 30 minutes.
- In small saucepan, combine sugar, milk, and butter; mix well. Bring to a boil. Boil for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; stir in chocolate chips until smooth. Pour and spread over warm bars.
Cool 1-1/4 hours or until completely cooled. Cut into bars.
Makes 48 bars.
Final Comments
High Altitude (above 3500 feet): For either size pan, bake at 375 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.
