    Chocolate River Bars

    Puyallup Fair prize-winning bars (Puyallup, WA)


    List of Ingredients


    • 1 stick butter
    • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
    • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 egg
    • 1/2 tsp almond extract
    • 1-1/4 cups flour
    • 1/2 tsp baking soda
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips


    Instructions


    1. Mix butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar; beat until fluffy. Add egg and almond extract and beat well. In a separate bowl, stir together flour, soda, and salt. Mix into butter mixture, beating well.

    2. Spread batter into greased 13x9x2-inch baking pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over top of batter. Place in oven at 350 degrees for 2 minutes, just until chocolate softens.

    3. With a table knife, swirl the melted chocolate pieces into the batter. Return the pan to the oven and bake 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden. Cool.

      Cut into 32 bars.

      Yield: 32 bars
