    Classic Cheesecake Brownies

    • -- Brownie Batter --
    • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 tsp baking powder
    • 1/4 tsp salt
    • 4 ounces semisweet chocolate squares, coarsely chopped
    • 1/4 cup butter
    • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
    • 3/4 cup sugar
    • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

    • 1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
    • 2 Tbsp sugar
    • 1 large egg
    • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract


    Instructions


    1. Heat oven to 325 degrees (F). Line a 9-inch square baking pan with foil; lightly grease the foil.

    2. Make brownie batter: Combine flour, baking powder and salt in a small bowl. Combine chocolate and butter in a small microwave-proof bowl; Microwave on HIGH 1 minute until melted. Stir until smooth. Then, whisk eggs, sugar, chocolate mixture, and vanilla in a medium bowl. Stir in flour mixture just until blended. Reserve 1 cup of the batter and set aside. Spread remaining batter in the prepared pan.

    3. Make cheesecake batter: Beat cream cheese in a small mixer bowl at medium speed until smooth. Beat in sugar, egg, and vanilla. Spread over brownie batter in the prepared pan.

    4. Drop the reserved 1 cup of brownie batter by tablespoonfuls over the top of the cheesecake batter. Run the tip of a knife back and forth through both to marbleize.

    5. Bake 40 to 45 minutes, until top feels firm when gently pressed in the center. Cool in pan on a wire rack. Invert pan onto rack; peel off foil. Invert brownie again onto a cutting board.

      Cut into bars.

      Makes 12 brownies.
