    Mocha Walnut Brownies

    • 4 squares (1 ounce each) unsweetened chocolate
    • 1 cup butter (no substitutes)
    • 2 cups sugar
    • 4 eggs
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
    • 1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 tsp baking powder
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 1 cup chopped walnuts
    • .
    • -- Mocha Frosting --
    • 4 cups confectioners' sugar
    • 1/2 cup butter (no substitutes), melted
    • 1/3 cup baking cocoa
    • 1/4 cup strong brewed coffee
    • 2 tsp vanilla extract


    Instructions


    1. In a saucepan over low heat, melt chocolate and butter; stir until smooth. Remove from heat. Add sugar and mix well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Stir in vanilla.

    2. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; add to chocolate mixture just until combined. Stir in walnuts. Pour into a greased 13- x 9- x 2-inch baking pan.

    3. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack. Combine frosting ingredients in a bowl; mix well. Spread over brownies.

      Makes about 2 dozen.
