Southwest Buttermilk Brownies

- 1 stick butter or margarine
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1/4 cup cocoa
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking soda

- 1 stick butter or margarine
- 1/4 cup cocoa
- 1/3 cup buttermilk
- 3 cups confectioners' sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a saucepan, combine butter, boiling water, cocoa, and oil. Bring to a boil. Set aside.
- Beat together sugar, eggs, vanilla, buttermilk, flour, salt and soda. Combine with hot mixture. Pour into a greased jellyroll pan. Bake for 25 minutes.
- To make the frosting, combine butter, cocoa, and buttermilk in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and add sugar and vanilla. Spread over brownies. Sprinkle nuts on top.
