Plain Juicy Hamburgers
Source of Recipe
Adapted from a recipe from James Beard
List of Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp butter or canola oil
- 1/2 medium onion, peeled and minced
- 1 large clove garlic, peeled and minced
- 1-1/2 lbs. extra-lean ground beef
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
- Ice chips
- 6 hamburger buns, toasted
- Assorted condiments, slices of tomato, lettuce leaves
Instructions
- In a small skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and saute until softened, about 5 minutes. Cool slightly.
- Combine the onions with the ground beef, salt and pepper. Form the beef into 4 to 6 patties, about 3/4-inch thick. Refrigerate until ready to use.
- Just before cooking, push small ice chips into the center of the hamburgers, pressing the meat back around the ice to seal. (This will keep the center of the burger juicy.) Broil, grill or pan-fry until no longer pink in the center and the juices run clear.
Serve the burgers on the toasted buns with condiments.
Makes 4 to 6 burgers.
