Mama's Corn Bread

List of Ingredients
- 2 cups yellow corn meal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 tsp baking powder
- ¾ tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1½ cups milk
- 3 Tbsp shortening, or bacon grease
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425° F.
- Sift the dry ingredients into a mixing bowl. Add the egg and milk, and mix well. Heat the shortening or bacon grease in a 9-inch cast iron skillet. When the grease is hot, pour in the batter.
- Bake until golden brown, 25 to 30 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool a few minutes before slicing to serve.
Makes 6 to 8 servings.
