    • -- Cheese Filling --
    • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
    • 1/4 cup sugar
    • 1 egg
    • 1/2 tsp vanilla

    • -- Topping --
    • 1/3 cup sugar
    • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
    • 4 cups peeled, cored, and sliced apples
    • 1/4 cup sliced almonds

    Instructions

    1. Preheat oven to 450° F.

    2. For the crust:
In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Beat in the vanilla and blend in the flour. The mixture will be somewhat crumbly. Pat the mixture onto the bottom and 1½ inches high around the sides of a 9-inch springform pan.

    3. For the cheese filling:
In a mixing bowl, beat together the cream cheese and sugar. Add the egg and vanilla, blending well. Pour the mixture into the pastry-lined pan and spread it to the edges.

    4. For the topping:
Combine the sugar and cinnamon. Toss the apples in the sugar mixture. Spoon the apples over the cream cheese layer; sprinkle the top with the almonds. Bake for 10 minutes. Reduce the oven temperature to 400° F; continue baking for 25 minutes.

    5. Remove the torte from the oven. Run a knife around the edge to loosen the torte from the rim of the pan. Cool before removing the torte from the pan.
