    Milky Way Cake

    Source of Recipe

    The Seattle Times

    List of Ingredients

    • 2 Tbsp vegetable shortening
    • 3/4 cup finely chopped nuts
    • 12 Milky Way snack-size (small-size) bars
    • 1 cup buttermilk, yogurt or sour cream, divided
    • 1 cup butter or margarine
    • 1-1/2 cups sugar
    • 1/2 tsp vanilla
    • 4 eggs
    • 2-1/2 cups flour
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 3/4 tsp baking soda

    Instructions

    1. Grease a 10- to 12-cup Bundt pan or 10-inch tube pan with 2 tablespoons shortening. Coat pan with the nuts.

    2. Melt candy with 1/4 cup buttermilk on low heat, stirring frequently.

    3. In a large bowl, beat together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Blend in vanilla. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

    4. In another bowl, combine flour, salt and baking soda. Add flour mixture alternately with the remaining 3/4 cup buttermilk to the butter-sugar mixture, mixing until the dry ingredients are moistened. Blend in the melted-candy mixture and spoon into the prepared cake pan.

    5. Bake in a preheated 350-degree (F) oven for 55 to 60 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes in pan. Invert onto a wire cake rack and cool completely.

      Makes 1 large cake.
