    Biscuit on a Stick

    Source of Recipe

    From "Morning Fires, Evening Lights"

    List of Ingredients

    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 2 tsp baking powder
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 2 Tbsp cold bacon fat or lard
    • 3/4 cup canned milk
    • Skewers

    Instructions

    1. Combine flour, baking powder and salt in a mixing bowl; cut in bacon fat.

    2. Add milk to dry ingredients and mix to make a stiff dough. Knead lightly with floured fingers until easy to handle. Divide into 4 or 6 parts, rolling each into a strip about 8 inches long.

    3. Heat skewers; sprinkle with flour. Twist dough around skewers. Hold skewers about 6 inches from the fire until inside bakes, then move closer to fire, turning constantly until browned. Remove skewer. Repeat until all dough is cooked.

      Makes 4 to 6 biscuits.
