Recipe Introduction
"When it comes to comfort foods, nothing beats a bowl of sweetened oatmeal, especially if it is topped with heavy cream or half-and-half. And the sweetener makes all the difference — Yankees clamor for maple syrup, but brown sugar, honey, and even sorghum, all have their advocates."
List of Ingredients
â—¦ ½ teaspoon salt
â—¦ 4 cups cold water
â—¦ 1â…“ cups rolled oats
â—¦ Heavy cream, half-and-half, or milk, to serve
â—¦ Sweetener of choice, such as: brown sugar, honey, or pure maple syrup, to serve
Recipe
Combine the salt and water in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat.
Stir in the oats with a spoon, reduce the heat to very low, and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the oatmeal is the desired consistency, about 5 minutes.
Cover the saucepan and let stand for 5 minutes more.
Serve the oatmeal hot, offering cream and a sweetener at the table.
